By enabling “User Self-Registration”, you can set up a web page through which your users can self-register for Apperian and download the App Catalog. You have the option to either let users register with an email domain from a specified list of domains only (a "whitelist"), or to let users register with any email domain.

On This Page

Apperian makes creating the web page easy by providing an iFrame code snippet that you can copy into the HTML of any webpage. You can create a user registration page that includes your own corporate branding and any other content, and then embed the iFrame code within your branded page. The iFrame code includes a unique registration URL for your organization. The Apperian Admin Portal displays this code snippet on the Settings page after you enable the User Self-Registration option. The iFrame allows a new user to create an account, and allows an existing user to download the App Catalog or reset an App Catalog password.

By default, the iFrame provides fields for entering First Name, Last Name, Email, and Phone. The Phone field is optional, and you can modify the iFrame code to hide it. For instructions, see Modifying the iFrame.

When Apperian creates the user's account, it uses the specified email address for both the user's User ID and Email Address.

To enable user self-registration
  1. On the Admin Portal navigation bar, click Settings.

  2. Click User Self-Registration on the left side of the page.

  3. Select the Enable user self-registration check box.

  4. Choose whether you want to allow users from any domain to register for Apperian, or if you want to limit registering users to specific email domains.

  5. If you selected Users from specific email domains are allowed to register, you will need to provide a list—a "whitelist"—of one or more allowed domains in the box below the option. You can enter an unlimited number of domains; enter each domain on a separate line.

If you save a whitelist of domain names but then later disable user self-registration or switch to allow users to register from any domain, the list of domains will still display in the whitelist box but they will not affect the registration process. This is for your convenience so that you do not need to reenter the domains if you later decide to re-enable the feature.

  6. Click OK to display the iFrame code snippet that you can copy and insert into the HTML for your company's user registration web page. This code will allow users to sign up for Apperian, download the App Catalog, and reset their App Catalog password. Optionally, you can modify the iFrame code snippet to hide the Phone field or specify a custom landing page when the user clicks OK. For instructions, see Modifying the iFrame.

Modifying the iFrame

You can modify the iFrame code snippet to make one or both of the following changes:

Hide the Phone Field

You can specify that the optional Phone field not display in the iFrame.

To hide the Phone field:

At the end of the url parameter, add this string:

&phone=hide

For example:

<iframe src="http://ease.apperian.com/index.php/selfreg?o=X6MwEKmCSN4zvMfxMZfVWg&u=5tfYZuEUwApJe_c3Zj2Nbg&url=default&phone=hide" width="335px" height="240px"><p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p></iframe>

Specify a Custom Landing Page

By default, when a user clicks OK, a default "Account Registered" message displays in the iFrame. You can change this to display your own custom "success" landing page.

To specify a custom landing page:

Change the value of the url parameter from default to the URL for your custom page.

For example:

<iframe src="http://ease.apperian.com/index.php/selfreg?o=X6MwEKlCSN4zbKfxMZfVWg&u=5tfYZuFUwApJe_c3Zj2Nbg&url=http://www.example.com/loginsuccess.htm" width="335px" height="240px"><p>Your browser does not support iframes.</p></iframe>
